Want to have a blast flying and support a great cause at the same time? Then this post is for you. On October 7th the W.A.S.P. RC Club will hold it’s annual Fun Fly to benefit the Toys for Tots Organization. Come out for a fun day of flying, along with all the usual Fun Fly stuff like free food and drinks, lots of planes, heli’s and multirotors, streamer chases, a full fpv track for racing, raffles and 50/50, and fun and games for people of all ages. Landing fee is one unwrapped toy, or cash donation to the Toys for Tots organization. All are welcome, but you must be an AMA member to fly. Please come help the W.A.S.P RC club help this wonderful organization. (Thank you Steve for the wording.)
In speaking with the #2 school principle for this year’s indoor flying, the school is replacing the floor in the gym so indoor flying has been postponed until further notice. We are not 100% sure if we will be able to use the gym at all this year. I will be in contact with other schools in the area to see if we can get gym usage. Meetings will still be held at the same library every 3rd Thursday @ 6 pm. Please see the meeting dates listed on the website.
The toys for tots fun fly is set for the October 7th and the rain date will be October 14th. Any help setting up would be greatly appreciated. Most of us usually meet up around 8a.m.
Be safe out there!
Hello everyone, Just found out from the Principle of the school, the gym will not be open to use this Thursday. Indoor flying will resume next week.
On a side note, the next 4 meetings will be held at the field as the school will be closed at that time.
The solar system/charging station is fully operational. Everything has been hooked up and running as it should. Feel free to use it. It’s pretty self explanatory, just clamp your charger to the proper + and – terminals and that’s all you have to do.
I want to personally thank everyone that helped with the build of this project. I don’t want to name names because I don’t want to leave anyone out. You guys deserve a big high five!! John and Alma (our landlord) are very happy how it turned out.
June Fun Fly
Just a reminder the next fun-fly is set for June 17th starting around 9 AM. Rain date is June 24th.
AMA Shot Down!!
From the office of AMA…Friday, May 19, 2017
As you’ve probably heard by now, a federal appeals court today struck down the FAA’s registration requirement for recreational model aircraft.
Today’s Court ruling is effective immediately. As such, if you have not registered with the FAA, you are no longer required under the law to do so. For those of you who have already registered with the FAA, you may be wondering what this means for you. We are currently working to obtain answers from the FAA and will share more information as it becomes available.
Please keep in mind that this is a fluid situation and there is always the possibility of a renewed push in Congress to compel federal registration for model aircraft. If that happens, rest assured that AMA will continue to advocate for your interests and keep you well informed every step of the way. We have repeatedly argued that federal registration for our community is duplicative and unnecessary, as our members already register their model aircraft with AMA. In addition, our 80-year history of safe and responsible flying demonstrates that we’re not the problem. We shouldn’t be burdened by overly broad regulations.
Today’s ruling also bodes well for our pending court challenge to the FAA’s interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft (also known as the Interpretative Rule). That petition, which AMA filed in 2014, is currently before the same Court that today rejected the FAA’s registration rule and affirmed the strength of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft, otherwise known as Section 336. This gives us hope for our continued fight against the Interpretive Rule.
We understand that these policy and legal developments are sometimes dizzying and complicated, and they are rarely resolved quickly. We’re nearly three years into our challenge to the Interpretive Rule, for example. We truly appreciate your sticking with us while we press on in the fight to protect your right to fly, free from unnecessary and burdensome restrictions.
